Observations from visiting other services

1. What did you feel about your experience?
1. Felt strange – different terminology
2. Didn’t feel welcome
3. Serile environment
4. Overly welcomed
5. Ill- equiped to participate
6. Discouraging because they were counting their good deeds
7. Uncertainty
8. Didn’t want to go; didn’t know how to behave, or what to wear
2. What did you notice?
1. Mauve = bad/innefective bland environment
2. Difficult to navigate – no clear signage
3. Odd symbolism
4. Need to use space effectively
5. Need to make environment warm
6. Décor looked like doctors office (80’s wallpaper)
3. What did you hear?
1. Friendship (holding hand) circles = bad
2. Complete silence for 7 members
3. “your reality is your reality”
4. Closing eyes and praying seemed weird
5. Didn’t express beliefs
4. What coul/should we be doing?
1. Make sure kids are safe
2. Make sure to say kind things to parents to show you interacted with kids
3. Welcome packet – good information – make people feel welcome
4. Keep services short
5. New people should be able to keep their children here
6. No cheesy grins
7. Be friendly, but don’t trap someone – be present and aware
